Cyrillic System Fonts
Our Cyrillic Support 2000 product lets
you install Cyrillic versions of the Windows system fonts.
Background
While you can normally select a font in your documents, there
are many contexts in Windows where font selection is not possible:
- Search and Replace Dialogs. Many Windows programs do not let
you select the font used for typing a search target (e.g., WordPerfect,
Lotus WordPro, Microsoft Word 6 and earlier, etc.).
- Windows Notepad. Under Windows 95, Notepad
does not let you select which font is used to edit your document.
- Text Entry Windows in Graphics Programs. Many graphics programs
open a secondary window to let you enter text. The secondary window
normally uses a system font rather than the font you have selected in your
document.
- Menus, Window Titles, Help Systems. If you have a program that
was designed for sale in Russia, its menus, window title, and help system
are probably written in Russian. It is nearly impossible to use such
programs on a non-Russian version of Windows unless you install Cyrillic
system fonts.
In order to use Cyrillic in contexts such as these, you need to replace
your normal Windows system fonts by Cyrillic versions.
Solution
Our Cyrillic Support 2000
product includes a program called Cyrillic Setup that allows you to
replace your normal system fonts by Cyrillic ones.
Cyrillic Setup can be run as often as desired to install Cyrillic
versions of the system fonts or to restore your normal system fonts.
