Easily convert multilingual text between Unicode and other popular character sets.

The widely used ASCII standard defines a uniform way to represent English text on almost any computer. For other languages, many different character set standards are in use. For example, Russian capital A is character #128 in Macintosh Cyrillic, but this same letter is character #192 in Windows Cyrillic. When moving a Cyrillic document from Macintosh to Windows, all instances of capital A must be converted from #128 to #192. Similar conversions are needed for each of the other Cyrillic letters.

In recent years, applications such as Microsoft Word 97, 20000, and XP have begun supporting a new standard called Unicode. Unicode is a comprehensive character set which attempts to include all the letters and symbols needed by every one of the world's languages. While Unicode is useful, it is not compatible with older standards already in use for various languages. Again, a conversion must be performed in order to use an older document in a Unicode application.

Character Set Converter gives you an easy way to convert multilingual text between different encoding standards. It can convert between Unicode and a wide variety of character sets used for Baltic, Central European, Cyrillic, and Western languages. Support is included for the most common character sets used on DOS, Internet/Unix, Macintosh, and Windows, and you can add custom character sets if necessary.
