What's New in Central European Starter Kit 2.0
The following features are new since Central European Starter Kit 1.0:
- Input Language Marking. Under Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, and 2000,
the correct input language is associated with each keyboard layout.
So when you select a Czech layout, for example, your programs will
know you are typing Czech. Programs such as Word 97 and Word 2000 use
your input language to determine how to sort, format dates, and select
the proper spell check dictionary.
- Unicode Keyboard Support. Under Windows 95, 98, Me, NT 4.0, and 2000,
you can now type in Unicode as well as
Code Page 1250 and
ISO 8859-2.
- Word 97/2000 Compatibility under Windows NT 4.0 and 2000. This release is fully
compatible with Unicode applications such as Word 97 or Word 2000
when run under Windows NT 4.0 or 2000.
- Euro Symbol. Full font and keyboard support has been added for
the Euro currency symbol.
- Improved Font Clarity. The included fonts have been carefully
optimized for high-quality screen display at additional point sizes (8-12 point).
- QWERTY Keyboard Layouts. QWERTY keyboard layouts are now available
for German and all Central European languages, in addition to the traditional
QWERTZ layouts.
- New Hot Key Choices. Left Shift+Right Shift and Left Ctrl+Right Ctrl
can now be assigned as hot keys to any keyboard layout.
- Improved Network Support. You can now specify the location of the
initialization file in several ways, making it easy for all network users to
have the same default preferences, or for multiple users on a single workstation
to each have their own unique set of preferences.
- Better Support for Control Panel Keyboard Layouts. Under Windows 95,
98, Me, NT 4.0, and 2000, the Keyboard menu now lets you activate any non-Central European
keyboard layouts you have loaded via Control Panel (e.g., Greek, Spanish, Turkish,
etc.). You can also set hot keys for these keyboard layouts, and specify that one
of them be activated automatically whenever Central European Keyboard starts.
- Third Symbol Key Options. Under Windows NT 4.0 and 2000, there are now
six options for the Third Symbol Key (Left Alt, Right Alt, Either Alt,
Left Windows Key, Right Windows Key, Either Windows Key).
- Swap Caps Lock and Left Ctrl. While this doesn't really have
anything to do with Central European languages, many users have asked for
the capability to swap Caps Lock with the left Ctrl key. This release adds
that capability when running on Windows NT 4.0 or 2000.
- Caps Lock Behavior. You can now specify whether Caps Lock should
affect all keys (as it does in the French keyboard layout), or just the
letter keys (as in most other keyboard layouts).
- Auto-Start Option. The Startup Preferences dialog now allows
you to specify whether Central European Keyboard should start
automatically whenever Windows starts.
- New Startup Defaults. By default, the window now opens in the
bottom right corner of your screen and stays on top of other windows.
This behavior can be customized, but the defaults have been changed to
reflect what most users seem to prefer.
- Expanded Online Help. Notes have been added on using Central European
languages in several newer applications such as Netscape Communicator 4.7,
Internet Explorer 5.0, Outlook 2000, America Online 5.0, and CompuServe 2000.
- Uninstall. An automated uninstall utility is included in case
you wish to remove Central European Starter Kit from your computer.
Please note that some of these features are only relevant for certain
versions of Windows, with the most features available for Windows NT 4.0 and 2000.
